The position resides in the Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center (TVAMC) Education Service Line and reports directly to the Chief of Education & Development. The training specialist will have oversight of the Prevention & Management of Disruptive Behavior Program, ensuring facility compliance.

Duties

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The GS-07 will serve in the developmental level position designed to provide the knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences necessary, leading to the full grade level of GS-9. The incumbent will organize work to achieve approved goals, consulting with the supervisor when problems are encountered. At the developmental level, the incumbent will have some knowledge and skill in instruction and understanding of the PMDB model. Completion of the PMDB Facility Trainer certification will help develop the incumbent's skills and knowledge for this position, to include: Knowledge and skill in applying and instructing the Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior courses; Knowledge of pertinent laws, regulations, policies and precedents which affect PMDB; Knowledge of the major issues, program goals and objectives, work processes, and administrative operations of the organization; Skill in conducting detailed analyses of complex functions and work processes; Interpersonal skills in teaching classes and working with staff; Knowledge of medical factors that support medical monitoring of a physically disruptive patient. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/19/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05 grade level. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-07:Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Physical Requirements and Work Environment: The work is primarily sedentary; although, some slight physical effort is required. Accompanying HPTs through the medical site or clinical training site may be required. Some work may require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite. Stamina and concentration to meet crucial deadlines is required. The work is performed in a typical office environment located in a health care facility. The work environment involves everyday risks and discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The responsibilities of the position require occasional travel and may subject the position to various resultant environmental changes.
