You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICAN in the PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will install, modify, and replace generation and distribution equipment in substations, power-generating facilities, transformer vaults, or distribution centers. You will install and maintain overhead and underground distribution lines as assigned. You will set correct wire tension or sag in accordance with strength and weight of wire. You will use test devices (e.g., voltmeters, ohmmeters, meggers) and electrical tools to conduct basic checks for continuity, resistance, voltage, shorts, insulation breakdowns, and grounds. You will troubleshoot distribution circuits to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, damage, capacitance imbalances, and cable breaks.

Requirements

  • You must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Call back and emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.
