Duties
Serves as a NISC fleet manager responsible for coordinating with GSA and USDA Fleet Management Specialists on replacing, servicing and repairing policies and procedures for vehicles and equipment assigned to the Fire Program.
Consolidates monthly vehicle reports and cost coding for fire vehicles and submits information to the appropriate fleet management personnel.
Manages the transportation fleet used to deliver emergency equipment and supplies. Coordinates maintenance, inspection.
Coordinates record keeping for a fleet of vehicles such as semi-trailers, two-axle semi-trucks, cargo vans, ¾ ton pick-up trucks, and various emergency rental agreement vehicles need for emergency incident support.
Conduct spot, cyclic and annual inventories of stock on hand, perform causative research and reports reasons for overages, shortages, or wrong locations.
Performs a variety of duties involved in packing for shipment or storage of special operation materials or equipment, including bulky, large, heavy items, or items of a sensitive or pilferable in nature.
Operates electric, gasoline, and propane powered forklift trucks capable of lifting loads up to and including 6,000 pounds to a height of 144 inches.
Trains and certifies assigned employees in the safe operation of various forklifts and other material handling devices.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to operate motor vehicles before entry on duty.

- This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Appointment is based on a negative result. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.
- If selected, you must register with the DOT Clearinghouse as a driver at https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/Register and complete a Query Consent. You must respond to the consent within 24 hours.
- Must be a certified forklift operator in accordance with OSHA standards and be able to pass an operator's test, read traffic signs, and complete trip tickets, within one year of initial employment.
- Required to attain and maintain HAZMAT handling and transportation certification in accordance with 49 CFR regulations, within one year of initial employment.
