Duties

- Performs a wide range of assignments involving many different and unrelated engineering processes and methods in the application of professional electronics engineering principles, techniques, and procedures. - Uses judgment and experience to make decisions. The employee assists higher-graded professionals perform duties in support of the installation, operations, and maintenance of weapon systems, subsystems, facilities, machinery, and/or support equipment. - Provides hardware/system engineering supporting the design, upgrade, integration, installation, testing, and troubleshooting of network ground system hardware. - Drafts written correspondence and other documentation in support of meetings, conferences, briefings, related to ground systems hardware and systems support.

  • Position is designated noncritical-sensitive and incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET (S) security clearance. A non-disclosure agreement must be signed.

Qualifications

This is a GG-7 target GG-11 position in the Cyber Excepted Service (CES). The GG-7 target GG-11 duties for the "Professional" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GS-11 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. This position is a developmental position and will be filled at the GG-7 level with promotion potential to the GG-11. The individual selected for this position may be promoted to the target level without further competition upon meeting any legal and regulatory requirements. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Professional and Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: A. Degree: Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. Examples of creditable experience include: practical engineering knowledge of a wide range of technical methods, principles, and practices involving many different and unrelated engineering processes and methods associated with installation, operations, and maintenance projects; knowledge of electronics engineering sufficient to adapt precedents or existing strategies to meet unusual needs, special demands, and determine feasible solutions to meet project requirements related to computer software/hardware and automatic test equipment; knowledge of satellite ground systems, and support equipment; knowledge of electronics engineering as it pertains to the design and development of hardware as it relates to systems and interface design; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of other engineering disciplines. AND KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Professional knowledge of electronics engineering concepts, principles, methods, techniques, and standard practices to perform a wide range of assignments involving many different and unrelated engineering processes and methods associated with installation, operations, and maintenance projects. 2. Knowledge of electronics engineering sufficient to adapt precedents or existing strategies to meet unusual needs, special demands, and determine feasible solutions to meet project requirements related to computer software/hardware and automatic test equipment. 3. Knowledge of satellite ground systems, and support equipment sufficient to plan, design, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, and oversee the development and/or sustainment of electronic systems or devices. 4. Knowledge of electronics engineering as it pertains to the design and development of hardware as it relates to systems and interface design; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of other engineering disciplines. 5. Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches, and to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes. 6. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED: Drug Testing: This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.
