The primary purpose of the position is to assist Environmental Care Specialist (Palo Alto Site Manager) by supervising staff on 2nd and 3rd shifts at VA Palo Alto Health Care System, Palo Alto Division to include DME program.
Duties
The position is Foreman of the DMS Processing Section, second and Third shifts Sanitation operations of the Environmental Management Service (EMS) with the responsibility for planning coordinating and directing all DME processing and sanitation operations, through subordinate supervisors and within imposed limitations, assures that effective services are provided throughout the Medical Center.
The Foreman directly supervises Five (5) Housekeeping Aid Supervisors and indirectly supervises Seven (7) Housekeeping Aid Work Leaders, WL-2, Twelve (12) Contractors and Thirty (30) Housekeeping Aids, WG-2.
On a continuing basis, the supervisor has full responsibility for employees assigned to the cleaning and disinfecting of Durable Medical Equipment (DME).The supervisor is responsible for job design, job engineering, work scheduling, training, counseling and motivating employees within the programs, job assignments, work tasks, training and other supervisory actions must be tailored to fit these special circumstances for individual workers. Counseling and motivational activities are regular and recurring and are essential to the effective handling of the special work situation
Primary duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Conducts a comprehensive training program designed to correct deficiencies and enhance skills of all subordinate supervisors, Work Leaders, and Housekeeping Aids.
Assigns and explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors maintaining a balanced workload among his/her sections.
Regularly provides reports of deficiencies and corrective action to be taken by management.
Assigns and explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors maintaining a balanced workload among his/her subunits.
Reassigns housekeeping aid Work Leaders, Housekeeping Aids and supervisors among shifts and subunits with the concurrence of the Chief.
Evaluates work in progress and upon completion, initiates or recommends corrective measures as required and coordinates sanitation operation and DME operation with the supervisors of other functions.
Assures effective implementation of management programs and policies, including safety suggestions, cost reductions, equal opportunity employment, merit promotion, labor management policy etc.
Appraises performance of subordinate supervisors, and/or other employees' appraisals submitted by subordinate supervisors, recommends promotions, incentive awards and other actions and employee appraisals submitted by subordinate supervisors.
Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, Sun-Thu 10:00am - 6:30pm

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The work performed may require continuous walking, standing, stooping, stretching and lifting. Manual effort may be necessary during training sessions or in emergency situations. The incumbent will work normally inside in well lighted, heated or ventilated areas. He/she may be exposed to contagion and possible infection, loud noises, bruises, minor shock and other injuries.
