This is an Undergraduate Animal Science Program that is within the Rutgers University,. The program provides ranges of experience from the campus farm to small-animal facilities. The curriculum covers the basic sciences to provide the scientific knowledge to develop skills to be competitive for careers in animal science-related fields. Students may participate in internships that offer college credit for work in a variety of settings, including animal research laboratories.

Duties

This position is being filled under the Pathways Internship Program. The program is designed to provide students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides managers a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. Major Duties: Assist with performing data entry for biomedical and clinical research experiments. Data analysis for biomedical or clinical research. Conduct or assist with basic science experiments. Maintain research records. Participate in research group meetings May participate in animal research. Provide animal husbandry and care for research animals, including cage and room cleaning, and monitoring environmental conditions Other duties as assigned. These will be above the average demands and levels of sedentary work.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/20/2024. You may qualify based on your education as described below. Individual Occupational Requirements: GS-3 - Education - High School graduation or equivalent or 1 year above high school GS-4 - Education - 2 years above high school GS-5 - 4 years above high school You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Per Office of Personnel Management General Schedule Qualification Policies, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable when documented by satisfactory evidence (e.g., a memorandum from the manager, human resources director, or official documentation such as SF-52, SF-50 documenting an official detail/assignments, or other comparable documentation). The documentation must indicate whether the employee performed the duties full time or, if part-time, the percentage of times the employee performed the additional duties. To receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your position, you must provide official documentation of such experience as indicated above. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
