THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER (Title 32), Position Description Number D1211000 and is part of the AR ARNG CSMS, National Guard. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQURED

Duties

(1) Repairs, modifies, overhauls, inspects, troubleshoots, tests, adjusts, and cleans the optics and supporting mechanical and electrical elements of complex panoramic telescopes. These contain offset prism assemblies, fire control instruments and a wide variety of less complex instruments and devices such as transits, theodolites, aiming circles, binoculars, searchlights, gunner's quadrants, compasses, periscopes, telescopes, and mounts, surveying sets, and fire direction sets. (2) Visually inspects optical instrument equipment and operates mechanisms to determine serviceability, damaged or worn parts, and malfunctions. Disassembles equipment; examines for serviceability using precision measuring instruments and special tools; checks lenses and prisms for aberrations; replaces worn or defective parts; reassembles, adjusts, and tests for alignment, collimation, and operations. Interprets and applies special modifications in accordance with prescribed Modification Work Orders (MWO'S). Inspects, cleans and makes minimal repairs to the more complex optical devices such as ballistic computing range-finders; L.A.S.E.R. range finders and designators hermetically sealed, full field coincidence image fire control range-finders; and articulated telescopes containing offset prism assemblies, eyepiece assemblies, articulated joint assemblies and erector assemblies. Refers to a variety of technical manuals to obtain proper setup and testing procedures. Uses special fixtures, testing, and measuring equipment such as telescope and azimuth test fixtures, binocular collimator fixture, surface plate, micrometers, dial indicators, and depth gauges, for adjusting and testing optical instruments and devices. (3) Abides by safety precautions when working with compressors, hoses, and tank testing equipment. Analyzes and tests continuity of electrical circuits by utilizing test equipment such as ohmmeter, voltmeter, and multi-voltage test set. Required to inspect, diagnose, and repair high voltage power sources used with night vision devices, aware of the hazards involved in checking high voltage circuits. (4) Serves as a commodity inspector during technical inspections, Command Maintenance Evaluation Team (COMET) or Maintenance Assistance and (MAIT) Instruction Team. Provides technical advice and assistance to units and field maintenance shops throughout the state. Troubleshoots and makes on-the-spot corrections, repairs, and adjustments when possible. Instructs unit personnel in the proper operation and maintenance procedures for care, use, adjustment, and storage of equipment being inspected. (5) Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the ability to apply knowledge of optical theory and construction principles in order to test, repair, align, and collimate a variety of complex optical equipment. Experience which demonstrates the ability to understand and apply instructions, and specifications; and interpret blueprints and diagrams of optical paths and mechanical linkages. Experience using hand and power tools common to an optical shop. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training repairing, rebuilding, overhauling systems and components of optical instrument equipment. Experience in diagnosing malfunction in determining remedy where complex relationships exist among optical systems and supporting mechanical and electrical systems. Experience in the use of a variety of measuring and testing equipment. Experience interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, schematics and work orders.
