This position is located within Agricultural Research Service, Pacific West Area, Aberdeen, ID. In this position, you will serves as the first line of response to alarms received from critical equipment monitored and emergency calls for service at the facility.

Duties

Makes periodic checks of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment and troubleshoots in case of a malfunction. Maintains and repairs pumps connected to the heating systems, checks steam lines for leakage. Cuts, reams, and threads pipe. Performs work in accordance with oral and written instructions, SOPs, and safety regulations.

Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. In order to qualify for this position you must meet the following by the closing date of the vacancy announcement: 09/16/2024. Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. The responses to the questionnaire and your resume should be in significant detail to provide the person rating your application with a good understanding of your ability to do the job, technical knowledge, work, and training experience, etc. (For example You must have the ability to perform the duties of a Utility Systems Repairer Operator Worker, without more than normal supervision (Screen Out). Physical Effort Light to medium physical effort is exerted in observing equipment operation and making adjustments and repairs. Constant walking and occasional climbing are required. Frequently works in cramped quarters when making repairs. Lifts and carries loads of up to 75 lbs. maneuvers weights of 80-100 lb. Working Conditions Works inside and outside of buildings in all types of weather and conditions. in damp and swampy hot and dry places; sometimes works in attics or manholes under high temperature conditions; subject to hazards of falling objects or bumping into objects while working at night; and subject to bruises, cuts, noise, dirt and infection from diseased areas. Other Consideration Incumbent is familiar with regulations governing the Clean Air Act of 1990 and any applicable laws mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency. Assists in performance of regular tests, sampling the emissions produced by the boilers; assists with adjusting the boilers to assure that all equipment operates at or below the established standards of the governing agents. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
