Duties

Responsible for the operational status of all police officers assigned to the shift who are involved in law enforcement, traffic control, investigations, and patrol activities. Review crime trends and accident data and implements preventive measures for reduction of their occurrence. Responsible for coordinating the overall law enforcement mission within the Military Police Station. Respond to all crime scenes and conducts initial investigations for serious complaints involving alleged criminal offenses to determine if a crime has been committed, requests investigative support. Oversee police station operations, assign work, and process reports. Monitor training and proficiency of individuals, conducting on-the-job training where needed, and recommending higher skill level training to increase proficiency of the force. Continuously monitors/oversees patrols and posts to ensure that each controls all situations and completes all actions within the limit of their authority, and that performance of duties are uniform and in accordance with approved procedures. Investigate or directs the investigation of all incidents occurring during the shift; ensures protection of evidence, and proper interviews of witnesses. Provide input to revise the Military Police patrol distribution plan consistent with crime trends and community needs and ensures the plan is implemented as part of the installation's overall force protection program.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass a pre-appointment and subsequent periodic medical/psychiatric evaluations to determine their ability to perform the essential functions of the position. Immunizations may be required.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position requires the Incumbent to obtain and maintain certifications for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) /first aid techniques.
  • This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
  • This position requires the incumbent to pass an annual Physical Ability Test (PAT) and perform the functions of the position to standards published in Army Regulation (AR) 190-56 and maintain a level of fitness to physically perform the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a valid state Motor Vehicle License and obtain and maintain local government driver's license.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
  • This position requires the incumbent to successfully graduate from a United States Army Military Police School.
  • Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Comply with and maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) IAW 190-56.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes training police officer personnel in crime prevention, law enforcement and physical security policies and procedures; Conducting law enforcement duties to ensure the protection of life, property and civil rights; Conducting investigations to detect and apprehend individuals committing suspected illegal acts, such as acts of violence, theft of property, or for violating laws concerning controlled substances; Enforcing a wide range of law enforcement/security laws, traffic codes, regulations, directives, and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
