This position is located with the Office of the Secretary of Interior, OJS, Missing and Murdered in Vancouver, WA. Evidence Technicians will support the mission and the Office of Justice Services (OJS) by providing technical support to Criminal Investigators in a task force environment focusing on cold cases and ensuring compliance with federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Duties

Supports criminal investigations by receiving evidence and seized property or assists in the seizure. Assesses evidence that was collected and ensures the preparation of materials for use in legal proceedings. Documents and controls evidence according to accepted protocols. Tracks and monitors evidence using automated systems and logs. Maintains all records and documents associated with evidence. Communicates any evidence findings within a written report as well as communicates orally to any evidence collection. Recommends and implements quality control procedures to ensure completeness, accuracy, and conformance with legal requirements.

  • Drug Testing. This position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test is received.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE GS-08 GRADE LEVEL: 1 year of specialized experience related to the work of the position and equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service or private sector performing ALL of the following: processing forms, paperwork, and other documentation in accordance with regulations/policy; evaluating evidence and/or documentation for issues or discrepancies and corrects or recommends solutions; tracking, cataloguing and storing a variety of materials; and ensuring that practices are in compliance with existing policies and procedures. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date.
