Duties

You will perform emergency protocols and procedures by providing basic life support (BLS) established by the system medical director. You will perform firefighting duties for a variety of facilities and perform pre-fire planning by physically going through structures to become familiar with the layout, fire hazards, and location of fixed fire protection systems. You will drive and operate firefighting vehicles, such as, but not limited to: pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and Airport Rescue Fire Fighting (ARFF) Vehicles. You will inspect, test, and maintain vehicles and equipment according to manufacturer's recommendations. You will operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner, while maintaining effective awareness of conditions for possible repositioning of vehicles and/or warning other firefighters of hazards. You will operate a wide array of firefighting equipment to suppress fires.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain current Firefighter certifications, clarified in Qualifications below.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • You must have reached your 37th birthday prior to appointment.

Qualifications

GS-07: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department/brigade; 2) Performing rescue operations; 3) Detecting, reducing, or eliminating potential fire hazards; 4) Controlling hazardous materials incidents; 5) Driving and operating firefighting vehicles; and 6) Performing non-invasive emergency medical procedures. Required Certifications: Firefighter I and II, HazMat Awareness, HazMat Operations, Driver Operator Pumper One or more of the following certifications below may be required to obtain within 1 year of start date. Airport Firefighter, Driver Operator ARFF, Driver Operator Aerial, Shipboard Firefighter, Marine FF, and/or National Registry Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) NOTE: THIS INFORMATION MUST BE SUPPORTED IN YOUR RESUME TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION. GS-06: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Required Certifications: Firefighter I and II, HazMat Awareness, HazMat Operations One or more of the following certifications below may be required to obtain within 1 year of start date.
