About the Position: This position is for a Detective GS-0083-08, with Department of Army, Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Directorate of Emergency Services (DES), located at Fort Carson, CO.
Duties
Conduct investigations to apprehend and/or detain persons committing crimes against persons and property.
Serve as point of contact (POC) for civil law enforcement agencies.
Responsible for the proper documentary control of the safe and secure storage of all evidence.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent is subject to successful graduation from the Department of Army Police Academy.
- Incumbent must successfully graduate from the USAMPS Military Police Investigator Course.
- Must successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work. These include, but not limited to weapons qualifications, first aid/CPR and National Incident Management System training requirements.
- Position requires a pre-employment Physical Examination, and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the position duties.
- Incumbent must pass a Physical Agility Test (PAT) within 30 days of hire date, and annually thereafter.
- Position requires incumbent to maintain the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include drug testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Position is designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent must report to work or remain at work to support mission operations.
- Incumbent must possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% or less of the time.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- Position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.

Specialized Experience: One year of demonstrated specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the federal service which includes: Participating in investigations related to criminal activities; Apprehending and/or detaining persons committing crimes; Obtaining statements from individuals concerning criminal activities; Accounting for, preserving, safeguarding and disposing of evidence related to crime scenes and/or criminal activities.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
