Duties

If you are selected as a Government Information Specialist GS-14, your responsibilities would include, but would not be limited to: Independently analyzes complex, sensitive, and exceptional FOIA requests and identifies problems and develops solutions to ensure that all OIG offices maintain the security of records, policies, and procedures in compliance with the FOIA and Privacy Act. Independently makes determinations of disclosure or nondisclosure on all FOIA and PA requests received in the OIG. Coordinates requests with other DOJ components as necessary, and other OIG offices when appropriate. Provides technical assistance and training on FOIA and PA requirements to all OIG personnel in accordance with the law and DOJ policy. Serves as a subject matter expert on the release of information to the public under the FOIA and PA. Performs review and clearance of information in response to FOIA and PA requests. Provides advice and guidance to management, staff, and the public regarding disclosure of OIG records under the FOIA and PA. Keeps up to date on all aspects of the FOIA and PA and evaluates the office's FOIA and PA policies and programs. Provides testimony and affidavits with regard to FOIA cases and other litigation and assists Government attorneys in the litigation process. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • You must be registered for the Selective Service, if applicable.
  • You must successfully pass and are subject to random drug screenings.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
  • You may be subject to a probationary period.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level. Specialized experience is paid or unpaid experience which has equipped you with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include such duties as: Serving as a senior subject matter expert; independently researching and analyzing complex requests for disclosure determinations; planning and conducting training sessions for OIG staff; and performing oversight and management of the administrative process in FOIA litigation. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade level (or equivalent). You must meet all qualifications requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
