The Emergency Department (ED) Health Technician serves as a member of the Emergency Department; as an integral member of the ED that offers a wide array of services, including urgent management of chronic diseases, urgent management of psychiatric and substance disorders. This position will serve as resources for health maintenance programs, supportive therapy, consultative services, and follow-up care and resources to veterans.

Duties

Provides administrative/clerical duties for the Nurse Manager and Emergency Department Serve as resources for health maintenance programs, supportive therapy, consultative services, and follow-up care to veterans. Provides knowledge and capacity to answer phones, answer call lights, obtain supplies, and print rosters. Organizes and maintains patient data by identifying treating specialty and completing all parameters and required fields in the computer. Follows applicable regulations and instructions while using software applications to prepare reports and maintain veteran's data privacy and unauthorized release of information or deletion of records. Inputs patient notes and patient data into patient medical record via CPRS. Responds to hospital emergencies as a member of the rescue team of the Emergency Department staff. Operates equipment such as scales, ceiling and portable lifting devices, and miscellaneous Emergency room equipment. Performs patient vital signs, pulse oximetry, sterile dressing and bandage changes, and prepares patient for self-care at home. Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 6:30pm-4:30am, rotating weekend & holiday; subject to change based on the need of the facility. Virtual: This is not a virtual position. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/18/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Individual Occupational Requirements: You must have experience in supporting duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Technician experience is experience that requires application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. In addition to the Individual Occupational Requirement, you must have the following experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-5 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes: First Responders, Paramedic, EMT or Military Corpsman, Firefighter with EMT experience; First Aid experience; Medical Terminology; and Computer knowledge (Outlook, CPRS, Word, etc.) OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have completed one half year of graduate education (9 semester hours or equivalent) with a major that included courses directly related to the work of this position. Such graduate education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. Physical Requirements: The work can be physically taxing and will require standing and walking. It may require lifting and moving patients into and out of stretchers or chairs and pushing or pulling wheeled equipment. The work environment has hazards associated with coming in contact with numerous infectious diseases; physical hazards from slipping and falling, needle punctures or cuts with sharp objects; being physically injured while assisting patients to move, stand, etc., and the possibility of direct physical assault by patients.
