About the Position: This position is in the Naval Hospital Twentynine Palms with the Directorate of Clinical Support. The city is the home of Joshua Tree National Park Headquarters and the proud Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Duties

Receive and review requests from physicians and other health care providers for ultrasound examinations of patients. Assist in the performance of invasive procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, etc. Develop ultrasound training plans for incorporation in other programs of instruction. Conduct hands-on training and technical oversight of other students and technologists. Select, set up, adjust, and operate ultrasound equipment. Conduct examinations, adjusting techniques and equipment to best present the medically significant aspects found if unanticipated conditions or anomalies are discovered.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required and annually thereafter.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Incumbent is required to be screened for and obtain necessary immunizations/vaccinations (hepatitis, influenza, etc.), unless exempted by a licensed physician.
  • This position has a requirement for moderate to heavy lifting in the regular performance of duties.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent is required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing a wide variety of ultrasound examinations on human patients; setting up, adjusting, operating or maintaining ultrasound and diagnostic equipment; and assisting providers in reading or evaluating ultrasound results. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Radiology. (Note: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages.
