You will serve as a INSULATOR in the Pipe Shop (960), Production Resources Department Manager (901), Production Resources Department (900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will insulate surfaces of pipes, ducts, valves, fittings, flanges, boilers, tanks, turbines, evaporators, refrigerating unites, bulkheads, and similar structures in connection with ship alteration and repair.
You will Receive work assignments from immediate supervisors or work leaders.
You will perform job check and lay out plans to ensure the work can be accomplished within the allotted time.
You will lay out work from written or verbal instructions.
You will periodically be assigned to a project work packaging organization.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

Interpret oral and/or written instructions, procedures, blueprints, sketches, or TGI/CU's.
Knowledge of insulator techniques and materials
Proficient in using both hand and power tools
Measure, fit, cut, trim, shave and shear material.
Fabricates molded sections of insulation for special applications using a miter box or band saw.
Prepare removable pads or replace sections of insulation by making paper patterns as necessary, cutting an insulating material and sewing parts together on electric sewing machine.
Wrap cloth or other fabric over insulation and sew the seams and joins using special tie line, and needle and sailmakers palm.
Ability to perform routine insulating work.
Ability to secure insulation in place with wire, metal straps or cement.
Assemble task packages, material staging and coordination of release.
