These positions are located in Petrified Forest National Park, in the Resource Managment and Science Division.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately February through December, and you will be in a non-pay status for one pay period in January.
Duties
Incumbent will assist in the curation and preparation of fossil material, ensuring that accurate notes and documentation accompany all work. You will ready fossil material for incorporation into the collection by creating museum quality storage housing.
The primary duty is to work in the park's fossil demonstration lab providing in person information to visitors about park resources and the paleontological program. You will write summaries and briefings of ongoing events and create media for the public and staff.
You will assist with the casting and molding of vertebrate material for education and research. Providing advice and assistance to student interns and volunteers involved in fossil preparation.
You will perform a variety of administrative duties in support of resource management and research projects, including maintaining computer databases, office files, and museum records.
This position has a major duty of basic fossil preparation under a microscope using pneumatic and hand tools, and basic specimen housing and curation. This function of the job will require protective gear of wearing a respirator that will require medical respirator fit assistance that will be paid for by the Park. This will protect the incumbent from silica dust and other respirable hazards produced by this major duty.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
To qualify for this position, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one year of GS-05 level in the federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Museum Technician. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include the following in a museum environment: collections management, registration, cataloging, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full academic year (18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours) of related graduate level education. Related fields of study include museum studies, library sciences, or history. If qualifying based on education, you must include transcripts in your application materials.

Successful completion of a as described above. For example, 6 months specialized experience, and 9 semester hours or 14 quarter hours of related graduate level education. If qualifying partly based on education, you must include transcripts in your application materials. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
