Selectee performs all phases of operation of Air Conditioning plants and multiply fuel power boilers, which includes but is not limited to, starting, operating, adjusting, securing and performing operational maintenance and repairs to air conditioning and boiler plants.

Duties

Thorough knowledge of all phases of air conditioning and power plant operations Knowledge of structural and operating characteristics of reciprocating chiller units, multiple fuel power boilers and pollution control systems Perform water chemistry analysis Perform chemical treatment procedures and maintain all water chemistry within limits Operate a reverse osmosis water treatment system Interpret and analyze data and make required adjustments to the utilities system management computer Understanding of refrigeration chiller and combustion theory Able to adjust, as necessary operating variables to achieve maximum cooling complying with air pollution laws and regulations Work Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday, 6:00am-4:00pm, 12:00am-12:00pm, 12:00pm-12:00am, 12:00am-8:00pm, 4:00pm-12:00am Position Description Title/PD#: Utility Systems Repairer-Operator/PD06290A and PD06290A Physical Requirements: Selectee must frequently work in hot, humid, confined spaces around equipment and systems associated with the utility plant. Must be able to climb ladders, bend crouch, stoop and endure prolonged periods of standing and walking. Must be able to lift parts, supplies and chemicals weighing up to 40 lbs. Selectee is required to enter boilers, fire and water sides, condensate tanks, cooling towers, condensers, pumps etc. Must perform inspections as required by Department of Veterans Affairs.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
