Job opening: LIBRARY TECHNICIAN (OFFICE AUTOMATION)

Salary: $55 924 - 80 510 per year

You will serve as a Library Technician for the Navy Department Library and NAVAL HISTORY AND HERITAGE COMMAND.

Duties

You will oversee circulation system and patron services. You will manage technical library data files and information. You will ensure hard copy and digital publications and other material are in correct order and are maintained. You will log material in and out to validate security. You will be responsible for circulation services and interlibrary loan services. You’ll work the public service desk in a rotating schedule with others, create library accounts, check in/out materials, answer calls, assist customers with locating material using an online catalog, help with scanning, copying, or microfilm scanner. You will shelve items and conduct shelf maintenance using the Library of Congress classification system. You will maintain, monitor, and produce reports relating to circulation and interlibrary loan activity.

Qualifications

GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the duties of a Library Technician managing various library duties while also assisting customers. You must be able to communicate well both orally and in writing. Examples of specialized experience must demonstrate performing the following duties: 1) Demonstrating an advanced knowledge of library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical services; 2) Maintaining, monitoring, and producing reports and information relating to circulation and interlibrary loan services to provide guidance and assistance to patrons seeking information; 3) Utilizing a knowledge of standard cataloging and classification rules; 4) Operating computer software, peripherals (printing, copying, scanning, etc.), online searching (Internet), and library automation functions (integrated library system) to facilitate library services and processes; 5) Shelving items and conducting shelf maintenance; and 6) Completing administrative and clerical tasks in a library setting. GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-06) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the duties of a Library Technician. You must be able to communicate well both orally and in writing. Examples of specialized experience must demonstrate most or all of the following duties: 1) Utilizing basic library rules, policies, and procedures for circulation and technical services; 2) Assisting with the production of reports and information relating to circulation and interlibrary loan services; 3) Utilizing a knowledge of standard cataloging and classification rules; 4) Operating computer software, peripherals (printing, copying, scanning, etc.), online searching (Internet), and library automation functions (integrated library system) to facilitate library services and processes; 5) Shelving items and conducting shelf maintenance; and 6) Completing administrative and clerical assignments with minimal or no errors.
