Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Directly supports clinical research protocols for multiple study teams, including related to study participant logistics (eg, scheduling, travel, communications, consenting, etc.).
Helps support planning and implementation of clinical research protocols, including related to documentation and data management prior to, during, and after protocol activities (eg, related to electronic IRB systems, medical record systems, etc.).
Utilizes the nursing process and critical nursing skills in coordinating care for individuals who are participants in the clinical trials research program.
Monitors research participant responses to study and clinical treatment and reports potential adverse events to a member of the research team.
Skillfully assesses complex and sensitive health education needs in individual research participant populations with like conditions, studies, or other characteristics.
Provides teaching to research participants and family regarding study participation, participant's current clinical condition, and/or disease process.

Qualifications
In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must have:
A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools;
AND
Passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN);
AND
A current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Additional Qualification Requirements:
In addition to the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must meet the Additional Qualification Requirement listed below for each grade level:
GS-11:
Completion of a Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree, from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field;
OR
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing guidance on research protocols in a clinical research environment; coordinating care for individuals who are participants in a clinical trials research program; interpreting clinical test results; maintaining an automated database management system to collect, organize, and report information on clinical trials.
GS-12:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: providing nursing care in a clinical research environment; implementing program outreach and patient recruitment initiatives for research programs; recruiting and screening new patients and assessing their eligibility for clinical trials; and providing patient and family counseling, health education, and serving as a patient advocate.
GS-13:
You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, designing, and developing clinical research protocols; implementing treatment and research plans; managing research data collection protocols; and evaluating trends in research study outcomes and protocol compliance.
