This position is located at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, in the Resources Division. Government housing may be available.

Duties

The Integrated Resources Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the natural and cultural resource division at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park. The park maintains a suite of historic buildings in various stages of rehabilitation, some of which are leased properties; modern buildings; several trails including the iconic Chilkoot National Historic Trail; a historic town site; a camping area; and some green spaces. This position provides management expertise and support to the superintendent and other division managers in all aspects of resource management to include, but not limited to: historic buildings and structures; National Historic Landmarks; biological resources; archeological resources; museum management, project planning and PMIS, and tribal consultation. The incumbent ensures coordination of all routine and special project work between branches and provides divisional long-range planning and budget development, plans special projects, and oversees the park's compliance programs to ensure compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act and National Historic Preservation Act. The position serves as a member of the park's management team. The incumbent is actively involved in decisions affecting overall park management policy and operations and contributes to the development and implementation of park management documents. Monitors and evaluates programs and operations to ensure compliance with, and application of, approved management direction.

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess the following qualifications by close of the announcement: BASIC REQUIREMENT: Historian, 0170 series: Degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. You must include transcripts. OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include transcripts and number of hours worked per week. General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences, 0401 series: Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. You must include transcripts. OR Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major, as shown, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include transcripts and hours worked per week. Archeologist, 0193 series: Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas: History of archaeology; Archaeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa; Regional archaeology, archaeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development; Theory and methods of archaeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating and analytical techniques; Archaeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work, AND Six semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archaeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; AND Archaeological field school. OR Related Curriculum: Degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements above (including archeological field school). OR Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. OR Experience: Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher-grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. -AND- In addition to meeting at least one of the basic requirements listed above; you must possess the following minimum qualification by close of the announcement. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: provide cultural resource program support and professional advice in at least one of the occupations listed above; participate as a professional member of a research team; provide technical assistance and serve as a subject matter expert in the conduct of research studies; plan or participate in the planning of cultural resource projects or studies; research, develop, and prepare manuscripts for professional publications. You must include the number of hours worked per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
