About the Position: This position is loacted with the 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Materiel Readiness Division, Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.

Duties

Operate and/or maintain fuel distribution equipment (e.g., pumps, hoses, meters). Conduct routine inspections and/or preventive maintenance. Receive, store, transfer petroleum products (e.g., gasoline, diesel, aviation fuels). Handle and store HAZMAT in compliance with regulations. Dispose of waste according to local, state, federal, and/or Air Force requirements. Maintain records related to fuel transactions, inspections, and/or maintenance.

Requirements

  • This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 75 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time to attend training or conduct site visits.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position may require the incumbent to be certified in the handling and/or removing of hazardous materials.
  • This position may require the incumbent to operate a forklift up to 10,000-pound capacity to move cryotainers.
  • This position may require Shift Work.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid, state-issued Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and must be insurable and must obtain required endorsements (HAZMAT, airbrakes, tank) within 12 months from the date of employment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WORKER (MVO) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common duties in operating complex workstations and various types of pumps used to load, unload, and transfer fuel oils, gasoline, and jet fuels through pipelines and hoses to and from tank farms, fueling pits, ships, aircraft, tankers, railroad tank cars, and tank trucks. I also am skilled in patrolling pipelines and tank farm areas, examining facilities and equipment, reporting the need for repairs, and perform general maintenance work, such as flushing tanks, cleaning nozzle strainers, pit box strainers, truck loading stand strainers, fill line strainers, and water line strainers. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal SupervisionAbility To InspectKnowledge of Specific Equipment, Machinery, Structure, or Components That Are InvolvedTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT Work requires considerable standing, walking, bending, working in awkward conditions, and climbing on tanks and heavy mobile equipment. Exerts light to moderate physical effort while performing operations such as connecting hoses, opening valves, and constructing pipes. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. May lift or carry items that weigh up to 75 pounds. Heavier items are moved with assistance from others or with weight handling equipment. Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast and depth. WORKING CONDITIONS Much of the work is done outside in all kinds of weather, around moving parts and vehicles. There is some danger of fire, exposure to toxic fumes and liquids, excessive noise, vibration, and falls from the top of vehicles. Tanks, pumps, and bulk storage containers are equipped with hoses that collect fumes before they escape into the air. Work is performed in areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted. Work may be dirty, dusty, and greasy. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises, injury from falling objects, collisions, shifting loads, and overturning.
