Duties
Assign, observe, and inspect all work, anticipate and resolve problems; coordinate work among workers and other supervisors to maintain work progress and meet schedules.
Manage and oversees daily work involving design and modifications to production equipment and maintains the GPO facility through the supervision of subordinate leaders.
Perform quality control measures to meet or exceed goals and develop a risk assessment for major projects, including, repairs, renovations, and new construction that includes a Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
Works from blueprints, sketches, work orders, models of parts to be made, or other specifications.
Utilize any of the accepted trade methods and techniques, any of the conventional types and/or CNC machine tools and their attachments.
Operate a PC in order to retrieve and generate data related to production and materials within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (NUVOLO or its replacement) or equivalent system.
Maintain/improve the Machine Branch's ability to enforce safety policy and guidance in the workplace and worksite.
Observe training needs of employee's and patterns of employee's development needs to express to Supervisor for training and performance annotation.
Requirements

Qualifications
To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Machinist Leader KJ-3414-00. These duties typically require skill in
(1) lead and supervise subordinates in a professional and learning manner;
(2) track and maintain financial expenditures in accordance with established management priorities;
(3) assemble, install, maintain, and repair all types of machinery, including printing and binding equipment, industrial trucks, and garage, powerhouse and HVAC items; and
(4) oversee the Computer Network Controlled machines that support the agency's passport production process..
Applicants must meet the following SCREEN OUT/JOB ELEMENT #73: Ability to Lead or Supervise as a Machinist Leader (SCREEN OUT). To be considered eligible for the position, applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of this position. These duties include: (1) leading and supervising subordinates in a professional and learning manner; (2) tracking and maintaining financial expenditures in accordance with established management priorities; (3) assembling, installing, maintaining, and repairing all types of machinery; including printing and binding equipment, industrial trucks, and garage, powerhouse and HVAC items, and (4) overseeing the Computer Network Controlled machines that support the agency's passport production process.
NOTE: In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix B): 1. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND 3. Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment.
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT ELEMENT below is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. The screen-out element for this position is:
Ability to do the work of a Machinist Work Leader without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
