The primary purpose of the work in this position is to manage the safe and orderly storage of CG-MPD’s art storage areas and those shared with other CG departments, including in offsite locations.

Qualifications

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1016-12. For this position, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, managing art movement projects for a museum or similar cultural institution. Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be evaluated against these factors to determine the best-qualified candidates. Cataloging – Ability to catalog modern and contemporary prints, drawings, illustrated/artist books, and editioned multiples. Artwork Handling – Knowledge of proper handling, packing, transporting, and storage techniques for works on paper. Project Management – Skill in project management sufficient to identify work, perform research, collaborate with others, and record actions.  "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Experience

General Experience (for positions at GS-4 and below): Experience using the tools, techniques, procedures, or methods related to the operation of a museum or similar collection, or to the handling, storage, care, protection, or recordkeeping of such a collection. Experience may have been gained in a museum, college or university, antique shop, commercial art gallery, or other setting involving work with collections of valuable objects or specimens requiring specialized care and handling. Other types of experience may also be qualifying if appropriate to the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-5 and above): Experience related to the operation or management of a museum or similar collection of valuable objects. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include collections management, registration, cataloging, research, preservation, restoration, or conservation of collections of museum material, or other experience related to the position to be filled. Most positions require a particular subject-matter specialization, e.g., aeronautics, anthropology, art, geology, history, natural science, technology, biology, or zoology.
