The primary purpose of the position is to interview patients and complete basic health screening. He/she collects patient data including vital signs, pain level, weight, height, and observation of overall condition.
Duties
The duties related to this position include but are not limited to the following:
Clinical Duties
The incumbent obtains vital signs, chief complaint(s) and/or patient history following OPC guidelines.
Reports abnormal and/or significant data to physician. Prepares patients for examinations, procedures by physician instructing/assisting in disrobing, gowning, and draping.
Notifies physician promptly of patient readiness. Assists physicians with examinations and procedures including assistance with instruments, dressings, and consent forms.
Reports any adverse reaction and symptoms to physician.
Performs visual acuity tests.
Performs all tasks and records all tests following standard collection and safety procedures.
Performs EKGs as required in the clinic.
Performs all tasks and records all tests following standard collection and safety procedures. Performs dressing changes following all service and safety procedures.
Administrative Duties
Receives encounter forms and assures completeness; receives consultation/labs/x-ray, etc., request and assures completeness; processes above materials per procedure; receives record, retains for filing, recording, call backs as needed.
Rearranges physician's schedule as needed to determine best time for "working in" same day patients originating through walk-in or telephone triage. Notifies front desk personnel to schedule patient accordingly.
Schedules patient's appointments into the individual C&P or specialty clinic.
Conducts appointment reminder calls and reschedules appointments if necessary. Initiates patient appointments for laboratory and x-ray tests.
Provides patients with instructions and information on appointments and diagnostic tests. Develops tracking sheet for physician ordered tests and consultations.
Assures proper accounting for physician and medical assistant's workload daily: verifies printed record of scheduled patients seen plus add-ons and no-shows with physician.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 6:45am - 3:15pm

Individual Occupational Requirements:
Specialized Experience: (1) one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-04 level in the Federal service, that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of this position and that is typically in or related to the position being filled. Specialized experience includes but is not limited to: Performing medical and diagnostic examinations by assisting with duties such as measuring and monitoring vital signs, collecting biometrics, preparing and positioning the patient and provides general clerical /administrative support coordination. OR,
Education for GS-5: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. OR,
Specialized Experience / Education combination: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours of a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirements. Two full academic years of study, or 60 semester hours, beyond the second year is equivalent to one year of specialized experience.
Preferred Experience: experience interviewing patients, completing basic health screenings, collecting patient data (vital signs, pain level, weight and height), preparing patients for examinations, performing visual acuity tests and EKG's.

Physical Requirements: Work requires constant walking, bending, standing, and sitting to assist physicians and patients. Incumbent will be required to assist in lifting and/or supporting a patient. Carrying supplies, folders and records up to 10 pounds.
