The Area Manager is located in the Office of Information and Technology, End User Services, End User Operations Southeast District. The Area Manager provides leadership and resource management (finance, human, and acquisition), leading the development and implementation strategy required to manage IT End User Operations.

Duties

Duties: Oversees the day-to-day operations, services, maintenance and security for all customers within their immediate geographic area. Provides management, supervision and services for Area Network Operations, Operations Support, Systems Integration, and Systems Design. Directs, reviews and participates in the design, development, implementation and maintenance of automated information systems and technical architectures in compliance with Congressional, VA, OI&T, and EUO directives. Develops long range program goals and objectives, assigns projects to subordinates and monitors operations to reach objectives. Evaluates facility proposals in the arena of operating systems environments, telecommunications, system engineering, budgeting, and systems architecture. Aligns EUO OIT Capital Assessment Planning (CAP) with the Mission of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Uses established analysis, business cases and decision-making processes to evaluate capital investments in IT and IT-alternative investments. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work. Directs, coordinates or oversees work of supervisors and provides similar oversight of contractors. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Compressed/Flexible: A compressed or flexible work schedule may be authorized. Telework: This position may be authorized for telework. Remote: No. Travel Required: Occasional. Bargaining Unit: This is not a bargaining unit position. Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Relocation expenses are authorized for this position. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although slight physical effort may be required. Promotion Potential: This position is at the full performance level. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Experience that demonstrated accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a wide range of knowledge of computer requirements and techniques pertinent to the position to be filled. This knowledge is generally demonstrated by assignments where the applicant analyzed a number of alternative approaches in the process of advising management concerning major aspects of ADP system design, such as what system interrelationships must be considered, or what operating mode, system software, and/or equipment configuration is most appropriate for a given project. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
