Duties
Conduct, plan, and coordinate all clinical and administrative aspects of a full range of services associated with contemporary speech/language pathology practices.
Maintain collaboration with other health care practitioners.
Comply with hospital plans and policies to meet recognized accrediting agencies’ (such as the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) or Joint Commission) requirements.
Participate in continuing education programs to update and maintain skills and knowledge in accordance with Medical Group (MDG) and unit policies including department in-services education.
Ensure temporal, quantity, and quality demands of the workload are met by meeting or exceeding business standards.
May participate in clinical research related to communication sciences, swallowing disorders, or other upper aero-digestive functions.
Full professional responsibility for cases that are difficult and complex, both in terms of the severity of the communications impairment and the presence of complicating physical and emotional factors that impinge on the treatment process.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirements for Speech Language Pathologist:
Education: Successful completion of a graduate or higher-level degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained.
License: This position requires a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech Language Pathology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes delivering speech language therapy services; formulating treatment plans for speech, language, voice, and swallowing disorders; and counseling speech language therapy patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
