Duties
Incorporates experimental theories and scientific principles and contemporary practice in the differential diagnosis and treatment of auditory and vestibular disorders.
Performs newborn hearing assessments.
Independently evaluates, manages, dispositions and counsels an expansive range of patient populations including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric populations.
Reviews patient records, assesses patient performance, interviews family members, documents medical findings, and provides individualized counseling as part of the comprehensive diagnostic evaluation protocol.
Provides expertise and professional consultation on Hearing Protection Device (HPD) and tactical Communication Device technology.
Investigates and applies new approaches and advanced methods in evaluation, treatment, management, rehabilitation, and resolution of patient caseload assignments.
Integrates and synthesizes test results, behavioral observations and related information to develop diagnostic impressions, make treatment recommendations, and determine work-relatedness in cases of occupational noise induced hearing loss.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirements for Audiologist:
Education: Successful completion of a graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. License: A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. (You must provide a copy of your license as part of your application package).
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience (GS-12): One year of experience which includes performing auditory diagnostic/screening assessments; developing treatment plans for audiology patients; and counseling patients and/or patient families on audiology care. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Experience (GS-13): One year of experience which includes audio diagnostic/screening assessments; developing treatment plans for patients; counseling patients and/or patient families on audiology care; and supervising staff. The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
