This position is located in Office of Global Research (OGR), Office of Science Management and Operations (OSMO), Office of the Director (OD), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
Duties
If selected for this position, your duties may include, but are not limited to:
Oversee and provide biomedical, technical, and scientific expertise for NIAID biomedical research activities as conducted by various NIAID divisions and extramural grantees within the designated region.
Collaborate in the development of bi-lateral and multi-lateral agreements for biomedical research programs.
Serve as liaison with government ministries, institutions and appropriate private sector national and international organizations working in the region to promote collaborative efforts.
Foster bilateral and multilateral relationships through the development of cooperative research and public health relationships with international scientists and officials from the region.
Research and gather information from NIAID and NIH information sources to provide the OD and divisions with a geographically-based analysis of NIAID's international activities.
In cooperation with partners, collects, and analyzes data/information on biomedical research supported and conducted by the U.S. and foreign institutions.
Provide input for position papers, analyses, and briefing documents on NIAID programs for use by U.S. representatives at joint science and technology review meetings, meetings of multilateral organizations, and interagency meetings.
Review and manage foreign clearance approvals of NIAID international awards (i.e., foreign components and direct foreign awards).
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications
You qualify for the International Health Specialist position at the GS-13 level, you must meet the following qualification requirements:
Education Requirement:
You must possess a Bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained).
AND
Additional Qualifications:
You must have at least one year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning, coordinating, and implementing activities for international cooperative scientific research programs; working collaboratively with scientists or international officials to support the technical administration and management of sponsored scientific resources; preparing presentations or reports that address substantive health issues and research objectives; carrying out segments of studies covering a wide range of international health programs or topics; and serving as the point-of-contact for international biomedical health activities.
