This position is located in the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Farm Production and Conservation (FPAC), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Science and Technology Deputy Area
The incumbent serves as a Climate Resource Specialist providing technology transfer, leadership, and assistance to integrate climate science and tools into NRCS conservation practice delivery and financial program implementation.
Duties
Participates in or leads work groups that develop and revise agency policies and procedures and
provide official interpretation of policies and procedures for assigned region and/or topical area.
Develops technical guidance and training related to greenhouse gas mitigation and climate change adaptation in coordination with national discipline leaders.
Recommends agricultural greenhouse gas emission reducing techniques and improved carbon sequestration strategies to the national discipline leaders and national discipline specialists.
Monitors new and emerging technologies that may assist agricultural producers with climate change mitigation actions and climate change adaptation strategies.
Requirements

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible.
One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level.
One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level.

Basic Education Requirement for the 0401 Series:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position;
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Education Requirement for the 1301 Series:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.;
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting one of the Basic Requirements listed above, applicants must meet the following Minimum Qualifications Requirement in order to be considered:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:
Specialized Experience at the GS-13: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Providing input on conservation planning criteria, assessment procedures, and key considerations for determining climate adaptation and mitigation-related resource concerns;
Participating in the integration of climate science into state, regional, or national strategies and policies; AND
Partnering with other Agencies, States, and organizations to create awareness of or formulate strategies to advance climate issues.

Providing input and/or develop conservation planning criteria, assessment procedures, and key considerations for determining climate adaptation and mitigation-related resource concerns;
Leading efforts to integrate climate science into agency strategies and policies;
Leading efforts with other Agencies, States, and organizations to create awareness of or formulate strategies to advance climate issues; AND
Providing input and/or was on a Team drafting state, regional and/or national policy.
