This position is located in the Physical Rehabilitation Branch, Audiology Section, Division of Clinical Services, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, New Mexico. The incumbent will perform professional work requiring advanced knowledge and application of concepts of Audiology and integration with other medical and therapeutic services. Reports directly to Supervisory Occupational Therapist

Duties

This position is being announced concurrently under Delegated Examining Services procedures. Please review vacancy announcement number IHS-24-NN-12503972-DE for eligibility requirements. NOTE: Applicants must apply separately to each announcement in order to be considered. Performs a wide range of audio-logic services across all patient age ranges from neonatal to geriatric to ascertain the type and degree of hearing loss, including specialized diagnostic measures such as Auditory Brainstem Response testing. Provide audio logic evaluation and treatment to patients of all ages with a wide variety of diagnostic conditions requiring audio logic services. Plan and carry out a full range of audiology services. Conduct hearing evaluation and related tests. Performs comprehensive hearing aid evaluations, selection, and fitting of appropriate hearing aids and assistive listening devices based on the type and degree of hearing loss. Interpret findings of hearing evaluation tests and explain findings to patients; develop a plan to reduce hearing deficits. Provide consultation services to audiology technicians, assistants and healthcare providers. Administrative duties include strategic planning, policy formulation, budget management, human resource management, performance improvement, quality management, safety and office management. Coordinate the audiology program with other service units and integrate services with Health Promotion/Disease Prevention. Provide expert professional consultation. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: A graduate or higher level graduate degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of audiology with approved clinical practice. Your education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: A full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Audiology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: Three (3) years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or one (1) year of experience equivalent to at least GS-9 grade level . Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Professional knowledge of practices to administer consultative procedures; serves as authority in provider expert advice; knowledge of IHS practices in the rehabilitative and diagnostic audiologic services; ability to make independent decisions. GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Skill in analyzing and interpreting test results in the evaluation of communicative disorders; ability to plan and conduct a program of therapy independently; communicate effectively, orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective relationships with individuals and groups; evaluating and resolving problems in hearing, voice, language, or speech. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
