About the Position: This position is located within Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) in the Department of Radiology, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Duties
Serve as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist in an Army medical and surgical hospital, independently performing complex and highly specialized angiographic and interventional procedures for Interventional Radiology (IR).
Independently prepares patients, exam rooms and procedure tables using techniques which are categorized as dirty, clean, sterile or aseptic.
Observe patient responses during procedures such as instructions given, movement, touch, etc., if significant, and if necessary, renders emergency aid and summons assistance.
Perform procedures that include neurological, thoracic, abdominal/pelvic and peripheral studies of the arterial/venous systems, non-vascular genitourinary, gastrointestinal and other miscellaneous studies.
Provide assistance to the radiologist as the primary circulator during all cases and also acts as a scrub technologist when needed.
Provide guidance for Radiology residents and assists in the training of 68P students and other civilian technologists in IR principles, procedures, capabilities, techniques, and equipment.
Communicate to the supervisor of any performance improvement issues and be able to help correct deficiencies within their scope of practice.

- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.

- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary the incumbent can be terminated with limited appeal rights.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires an American Registry of Radiologic Technologist Certification.
- The duties of this position may require the incumbent to be on call for emergencies.

Basic Requirement for Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist:
Radiology Certification: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements:
(1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others.
(2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized experience: is defined as: performing diagnostic radiologic examinations to include assisting in interventional radiology; preparing complex sterile surgical set-ups or preparing or administering contrast material. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).
OR
Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09: Successful completion of a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Diagnostic Radiology/Radiography.
OR
Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-09: If you have some, but not all, of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education in excess of 18 hours (total semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions.
