This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), in Specialty Services (TFHS), Construction & Maintenance Services (TFH), Transmission Field Services (TF), Transmission Services (T). A successful candidate in the Sheet Metal Mechanic position will lie out and fabricate sheet metal products in the shop or at other installations in the BPA system.

The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision to accomplish works and trades such as operate sheet metal working equipment and tools, assembles, disassembles, files, chips, scrapes, reams, welds (MIG, TIG, arc, gas), brazes, or solders as incidental tasks, installs fabricated sheet metal items, including mounting them in field locations and adapting products as necessary, and performs welding on sheet metal and plate projects, cold roll, steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is normally performed at the Sheet Metal Shops at Ross Complex. Work involves some heavy or awkward lifting of metal sheets weighting up to 100 pounds. Field work is performed both indoors and outdoors. Hazards include working around machinery with moving parts; working around energized, high-voltage electrical equipment; being exposed to constant metal-shop noise and vibration; and climbing on ladders, scaffolding, and steel structures, up to 100 feet which may occur during inclement weather. The Mechanics are subject to minor cuts, bruises, falls and burns. Proper respiratory and safety equipment shall be worn when hazardous substances are being handled (solvent fumes, cleaners, epoxies, etc.). At times, work may be physically demanding. The work environment will occasionally include exposure to hazardous substances, (lead, zinc poisoning, etc.) that could, if precautions are not followed, pose a health risk. Emergencies, critical system conditions, or outage limitations may require that work be system wide, done at night, or under serious time pressures. System priorities may require extended periods of overtime including working weekends and holidays. PHYSICAL CONDITIONS: Incumbents must be physically and mentally able to efficiently perform the essential duties of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, without hazard to themselves or others.
