About the Position: Serves as work leader of multiple employees in accomplishing trades, labor and operations work in support of the range mission.

Duties

Directs manual labor, landscaping, and grounds maintenance work. Carries out equipment operation work involving industrial-type, rubber-tired and/or field, various range maintenance, and base camp type tractors, backhoes, fork lifts and/or skid loaders. Accomplish trades, labor and operations work in support of the range mission. Using and operating plumbing, electrical and carpentry tools to include powered equipment. Passes on to other workers instructions received from supervisor, and starts work by assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by individual members of the group. Insures that needed plans, material, and tools are available and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations in order to support the range mission. Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the range support operations and maintenance of the Range Complex facilities and training areas.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position may require to work an uncommon tour of duty to include working days, evening, nights, weekends, and holidays and/or shift work, depending on the mission requirements.
  • Position requires to lift up to 50 pounds in the regular performance of duties and occasionally items weighing more with assistance of material lifting devices or other workers.
  • Position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position

Ability to Lead or Supervise - Perform common range operations, maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, electrical and equipment operation. Answer workers questions regarding procedures, policies, and written instructions. Provide information to supervisor on status and progress of work. Complete plumbing work on buildings, carpentry work on targets and markers and perform minor mechanical work on pop-up targets at ranges. Complete minor electrical repair on buildings. Accomplish maintenance on a variety of target equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. May work on ladder, scaffolds or platforms and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard to reach places. Frequently lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally items weighing more with assistance of material lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: Maintenance work is normally performed outside with exposure to wide variations in weather and temperature. Incumbent is exposed to potential injury from power tools and danger from flying objects, cuts and scrapes, is expose to traffic hazards while driving on both improved and unimproved road surfaces. There is exposure to insect, spider and snakebites.
