As a Fire Protection Engineer, you will be responsible for fire protection engineering, fire safety, emergency preparedness, and damage control programs for all federal owned and leased buildings within Region 3. Location of Position: Public Buildings Service, Facilities Management Division, Philadelphia, PA. We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed.

Duties

This position has job functions that must be executed within specific geographic locations. The official duty station is a federal facility, leased space, or an alternative worksite (typically the employee’s home) within the specified geographic area. If you are selected for this position you will be expected to report to the duty station listed on this announcement within 45 days. At that time, you may be eligible to request to telework one or more days a pay period depending upon the terms of the agency’s telework policy.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR ENGINEERS: A Degree in professional engineering OR a combination of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience. For specifics on qualifying education and/or experience - use the following link: Basic Requirements for Engineer Positions.  In addition to meeting the basic qualifications you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as serving as the technical expert responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating fire protection and life and safety programs for commercial, public, or government office buildings. This experience includes:• Interpreting and implementing guidelines, standards, policies and engineering criteria for fire and safety programs;• Reviewing project plans, specifications, and designs in order to advise on fire protection issues for construction and repair and Conducting risk analysis of building occupancy and fire and smoke protection systems to develop solutions that ensure a safe environment for occupants and comply with applicable life and safety codes;• Evaluating performance and providing recommendations for fire, life and work safety programs to ensure compliance with relevant fire safety and safety and occupational health laws and regulations;• Managing inspections of buildings and work space to ensure compliance with applicable fire and work safety codes, policies, regulations and laws.
