This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Miami Field Division. This position(s) primary purpose is to perform a variety of investigative and administrative functions in support of DEA, state, federal, and local law enforcement and security agencies, in addition to FOIA/PA request processing.

Duties

As a Criminal Records Research Technician, your typical work assignments may include: Abstracts pertinent data from the criminal referral and ensures the information is entered into the field office systems in accordance with current guidelines. Conducts complex searches and queries, using a variety of law enforcement databases or data files related to these activities, both internal and external to the agency. Serves as the divisional expert on the use of automated law enforcement systems such as Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Information System, National Crime Information Center, National Law Enforcement Telecommunication System, DEA/State Department teletype network, etc. Serves as an expert in resolving difficult problems associated with the dissemination of sensitive enforcement information. Receives, develops, refines and analyzes data impacting real-time enforcement operations. Provides enforcement data (e.g., data intersects on suspected drug traffickers) to DEA Centers, El Paso Intelligence Center and other concerned law enforcement information centers and organizations. Provides substantive law enforcement data to DEA units and other agencies during land, air, and/or marine pursuits and interceptions.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the required qualification requirements described below by the closing of this announcement. If you are qualifying based on education or if there are mandatory education requirements listed below, you MUST submit a copy of your college transcript with your application. You may qualify at the GS-8 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector). Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Receiving, developing, refining and analyzing data that impact real-time law enforcement operations; 2) Disseminating sensitive law enforcement data and providing technical communication support; and 3) Conducting unique queries in order to extract data from a broad range of law enforcement, compliance, and/or inspection computer systems. You may qualify at the GS-9 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector). Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Resolving problems associated with the dissemination of sensitive law enforcement information; 2) Conducting complex searches and queries using a variety of law enforcement, compliance, and/or inspection databases or data files; and 3) Analyzing and interpreting data retrieved from automated law enforcement databases. Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
