You will serve as a PHSYICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN in the OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH DIVISION of SWFLANT KINGS BAY. This position is part of the Department of Defense Civilian Acquisition Workforce Personnel Demonstration Project. The NJ-3 broadband level encompasses positions equivalent to GS-09 and GS-11.

Duties

You will manage the Radiation Safety Program and acts authoritatively for the Commanding Officer in carrying out the RSO duties and responsibilities. You will provide management oversight and direction to the Assistant Radiation Safety Officers (ARSO) who will perform and assure the adequacy and effectiveness of controls that prevent the overexposure of personnel to ionizing radiation. You will develop procedures and efficiency of response personnel to ensure the detection, protection, decontamination of personnel during Nuclear Weapons Accident/Incidents. You will identify and ensure the proper maintenance of all radiological control's equipment used in the detection, protection and decontamination of radiation. You will develop procedures, conduct training, ensure proficiency and directs actions of approximately 60 response personnel assigned to the Contamination Control Station, Downwind, Survey and Rapidly Deployable Assessment Teams. You will serve as exercise controller/monitor and evaluates success of objectives.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to qualify for inclusion into the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP).

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NJ-02 (GS-08) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Overseeing audits and surveillance programs to evaluate radiological controls or advise on weapon incidents for compliance with regulatory requirements. Education

Successful completion of a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Successful completion of 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree from an accredited college or university.
