Duties
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Secretary, Office of Law Enforcement and Security (OLES), Internal Security Division (ISD), Washington, DC.
At the full performance level (GS-13) the major duties of this position include but are not limited to the following:
1) Provides recommendations on or develops agency security polices, standards, and guidelines and resolves conflicts in policy and programs objectives.
2) Conducts research on new and emerging security developments, technologies, and systems for integration into existing systems.
3) Provides technical advice and assistance on physical security issues and concerns such as identifying internal and externals threats, determining the adequacy of physical security protection, and mitigating threats to the Department of the Interior or the Office of Law Enforcement and Security mission.
4) Establishes, monitors, and evaluates programs to identify deficiencies, underlying problems, and develop recommendations for improvements.
5) Assists other team members with conducting formal and informal training on physical security systems, security awareness, crime prevention, and Occupant Emergency Plans.
The OS-OLES has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
Salary Information:
GS-13: $117,962 to $153,354 per annum. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level.
This position is Critical-Sensitive. The incumbent will be subject to a favorable background investigation and must be eligible for a Top-Secret security clearance.
This position is subject to drug testing. The incumbent must pass initial and continued periodic short notice drug testing.
As a member of the agency's emergency staff the position may require the incumbent be available after hours, weekends and holidays in emergency situations.
Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain certifications necessary for the operation and maintenance of technical security systems used by the Department.
This vacancy may be used to fill additional positions as vacancies become available.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
To qualify for this position you must meet the Specialized Experience for the series to which you are applying.
Specialized Experience
To qualify for the GS-13, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience:
1. Developing local organizational policy and guidance for physical security programs;
2. Interpreting regulations and directives to meet the demands of security and organizational missions and practices.
3. Conducting studies and surveys to include developing risk, vulnerability, and threat assessments;
4. Establishing, monitoring, researching, and implementing security methods and procedures; or
5. Designing and managing physical security protection systems.
