Duties
You will apply coating materials using accepted trade devices including those designed to give special effects, e.g., brushes, rollers, spray guns, and graining devices.
You will apply coating techniques that ensure surfaces have a smooth textured and decorative appearance and meet thickness and level requirements.
You will prepare exterior work on buildings along with the required washing, removal of paint or varnish by sanding, scraping, wire brushing, burning with blowtorch, or use paint/varnish remover.
You will paint and decorate interior and exterior buildings, military housing quarters, transportation equipment, machinery, office equipment, swimming pools, road markings and occasionally may cut and set glass.
Requirements

- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current respirator certification.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the Painter position without more than normal supervision performing duties such as: (1) Interpreting instructions or specifications to assist journeymen in applying coating materials to surfaces by carrying out routine tasks of the trade; (2) Stirring, thinning, and mixing coating materials following specific instructions; (3) Determining which standard methods and techniques are needed to apply coating materials to surfaces; and (4) Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment such as paintbrushes, rollers, and spray guns.
