THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST, Position Description Number D2275000 and is part of the 190TH ARW OSS, TOPEKA, KANSAS, Kansas Air National Guard.

Duties

As a TELECOMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST GS-0391-10, you will serve as the principle COMSEC Responsible Officer (CRO) within a strategically-tasked Air Refueling (KC-135, KC-46) Operations Group. Research and interpret communications security requirements for all peacetime and wartime tasked and contingency missions. Operate a communications security (COMSEC) sub-element, maintaining a ready-library of printed and electronic cryptographic media, equipment, and the accompanying infrastructure required to support the organization's primary assigned aircraft and crew complement. Provide detailed content to the wing's combat mission folders (CMFs), and forms part of wing's overall CMF validation team. Readies prepared kits of specified communications security materials to be carried aboard and utilized during inflight missions. Provide pre-launch briefings to crews, providing mission-specific communications, identification, authentication, and safe passage instructions for conventional or strategic missions. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements. Telework: ELIGIBLE FOR SITUATIONAL TELEWORK ONLY, INCLUDING EMERGENCY AND PRESCRIBED "UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK"

Requirements

  • KANSAS AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • For continued employment, the selected dual status technician must obtain and maintain all compatible service specific military skill requirements in training and education.
  • Applicants must possess or be able to obtain a applicable Secret clearance within one year of appointment.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E1- E5 Compatible Military Assignments: 1D771Q GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- electrical or electronic engineering, mathematics, physics, public utilities, statistics, computer science, telecommunications management, information systems management, business administration, industrial management, or other fields related to the position to be filled. Other Education: Communications/electronics or automatic data processing training in technical institutes or business schools above the high school level or in Armed Forces schools that included advanced instruction in addition to basic courses, may be substituted for general experience on a month-for-month basis. OR Experience in evaluating, analyzing, developing, managing, or improving communications systems, procedures, and requirements that demonstrated knowledge of current developments and trends in communications concepts and technology. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have the skills and knowledge of a wide range of Combat Crew Communications concepts, principles, and practices, and are you able to demonstrate comprehensive skill gained through extended study and experience of military aviation communications security concepts including digital cryptography, physical/printed communications security media, radio procedures and call signs, aircraft safe passage procedures, and combat identification features of aviation transponders.
