This position is located at the Albuquerque Service Unit, Division of Nursing Services, Outpatient Unit, in Albuquerque, New Mexico and reports to the Director of Nursing. The purpose of this position is to serve as the Assistant Director of Nursing for the Albuquerque Service Unit and satellite clinics.

This position works in conjunction with the Director of Nursing to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care in collaboration with the medical staff, other ancillary departments.
Supervises and directs nursing care and services.
Provides clinical nursing care and services to patients.
Provides therapeutic interventions to patients.
Provides emergency patient care services.
Conducts medical examinations and tests to identify and diagnose medical conditions and diseases.
Evaluates and counsels patients, subordinate staff, and students on patient care and preventive care.
Coordinates services with other providers, departments, and the community.
Initiates and leads multi-disciplinary groups.
Prepares daily assignments and schedules completion of work.
Ensures compliance with IHS, JACHO, OSHA, HIPAA, and other compliance programs.
Performs a full range of supervisory and managerial functions.
Reviews and approves leave requests.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-11:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples Include: Provide oversight and direction in establishing and maintaining a system of nursing practices, coordinate patient care and services; collaborate with other disciplines toward resolution of patients problems. Plan with other members of the health care team, special details of patient care to provide continuity of care; function as nursing supervisor or nurse manager and/or provide direct patient care. Knowledge of principles, methods, and tools of Quality Assurance, Quality Improvement, and Quality Controls.

Successfully completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
Public Health Service (PHS) Licensure Policy: Each PHS Nurse must possess and maintain a valid, active, currently licensure/ registration as a professional nurse.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
