About the Position: Position is located in the Mental Health Department (MHD), of a Defense Health Agency (DHA) Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). The position supports the department mission in providing comprehensive outpatient mental health services for active duty, retirees and their beneficiaries. Duties

Provide nursing care to psychiatric patients with a variety of severe mental health problems that usually change within a predictable range of symptoms. Obtain physical, psychosocial, or functional needs data to complete the patient assessment. Obtain patient records to prepare for appointments or as needed. Encourage patients to verbalize problems, feelings, or history to screen for completing initial and ongoing screening and evaluation of individuals or behavior changes. Provide basic information regarding self-care to patients as instructed by professional staff Schedule routine or follow up appointments to ensure patients receive necessary treatment. Utilize an automated system to schedule routine or follow up appointments for patients.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations.
• This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
• The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing duties such as caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement and/or providing nursing care nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility to psychiatric patients with a variety of mental health problems; and monitoring or reporting patient behavior. OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with courses related to the occupation. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
