This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. ARTs are part of the regular career civil service and enjoy all the benefits granted to Federal employees in the competitive civil service. Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART); to inspect, observe and determine quality of in-process and after-the-fact maintenance, ensure prescribed technical and management procedures are followed and quality maintenance is achieved; to assist with the organization's Group Quality Assurance Program; and to train reservists in the tasks of this position. Duties: 1: Evaluates assigned personnel performance, documentation, and observable maintenance processes to assure compliance with technical orders and procedural directives. 2: Serves as technical advisor and assistant to production work center managers in the resolution of quality problems. 3: Participates in the Quality Assurance Program (QAP). Performs miscellaneous administrative related duties when tasked. 4: Prepares for, trains, and participates in the training of reservists. 5: complies with safety requirements related to work environment.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 - Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of an Aircraft Engine Work Inspector without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Ability to perform a variety of inspections, in-progress and after-action during the build-up, repair, troubleshooting and overhaul of aircraft engines to detect and isolate malfunctions and to determine when new assemblies, components, and parts of aircraft engines should be installed, reworked, repaired, or adjusted. 2. Ability to read and interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, and technical orders, related to aircraft engines and components and to evaluate compliance, adequacy of repairs, and proper installation of parts and modifications. 3. Knowledge of aircraft engines including the interrelationships between jet engines and aircraft related systems, such as hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems. Knowledge of manufacturing specifications, maintenance procedures, and techniques, Knowledge of functional relationships among components and subsystems including power plants and testing techniques required to verify established performance limits. 4. Skill in using a variety of tools required to perform assessments, e.g., micrometers, torque wrenches, tension meters, feeler gages, dial indicators, magnifying glass, rig pin, flashlight. Skill and ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing. 5. Knowledge of safety requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and technical orders. Knowledge of skill enhancement training requirements. 6. Basic knowledge of and ability to use computers, software packages, LAN's, and various CAMS/GO81 based programs. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: 1: This is an ART position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies. The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non­-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. 2: May be required to fly in military or commercial aircraft during FCF and/or for TDY purposes. 3: May be subject to shift work and uncommon tours of duty. 4: Performs other related duties as assigned. 5: This is a testing designated position (TDP), The employee is subject to random dmg testing. FUNCTIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy lifting (45-79 lbs.), Moderate lifting (15-44 lbs.), Light lifting (under 15 lbs.), Heavy carrying (45-79 lbs.), Moderate carrying (15-44 lbs.), Light carrying (under 15 lbs.), Hours of straight pulling are 15 minutes per day, Hours of pushing are 15 minutes per day. Reaching above shoulders. Use of fingers. Both hands required. Hours of walking are 4 hours per day. Climbing, use of legs and arms. Both legs required. Operation of crane, truck, tractor, forklift, or motor vehicle. Ability for simultaneous rapid mental and muscular coordination, Near vision correctable at 13 inches to 16 to jaeger I to 4. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and 20/40 in the other. Far vision correctable in one eye to 20/50 and 29/100 in the other. Both eyes required. Depth perception. Ability to distinguish shades of color. Hearing (aid permitted). Additional functional requirements include: Must wear prescribed safety equipment when required. ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Outside and inside (other than normal commuting). Excessive noise, intermittent. Constant noise. Electrical energy. Slippery or uneven walking surface. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
