You will serve as a RADIOACTIVE MATERIAL SPECIALIST in the Nuclear Engineering and Planning Department (Code 2380.9) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will perform system analyses of programs and problems associated with the management supply systems involve with Radioactive Material preparation, receipt and shipment.
You will certify that shipments of radioactive material shipped by the Shipyard are properly classified, described, packaged, marked and labeled, and are in proper condition for transportation.
You will respond to inquiries, audits, and inspections concerning radioactive material shipping and receiving, and refueling services equipment.
You will plan and determine current and future supply requirements concerning radioactive material receiving and shipping and refueling services equipment to meet customer needs.
You will participate in a Radioactive Material Receipt training assessment program designed to evaluate the process for the proper receipt and handling of radioactive material.
You will determine and program short range and long range receipt and shipment management requirements.
You will verify that material inside containers is properly blocked and braced for normal hazards of transportation on the transport vehicle.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience packaging, marking, and labeling of radioactive or special nuclear material leaving the Shipyard meets federal, state and local requirements.
Experience conducting inventories of radioactive and special nuclear materials.
Experience working with Code 2380.9 to ship and/or receive Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program Radioactive Material, Radioactive Waste and/or Mixed Waste (Radioactive and Hazardous) or Radiation Affairs Safety Program Material.
Experience communicating with senior managers and acting in a leadership capacity. Experience with Load securement, blocking and bracing, and transportation requirements. Experience with briefing, managing personnel, safety, and planning.
Experience working in computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience as a Qualified Radiation (R) Worker or higher.

Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related
