The United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida's (USAO-SDFL) mission is to enforce and defend the laws of the United States of America through the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal government; the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party; and the collection of debts owed to the Federal government that are administratively uncollectible.

Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing Public Affairs Specialist support in the U.S. Attorney's Office, Southern District of Florida, located in Miami, Florida, focusing in the areas of press coordination; administrative support; and media and social media support. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Typical work assignments will include: The Public Affairs Specialist (Specialist) will serve as the press coordinator for the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida (USAO-SDFL) with responsibility for collecting, assembling, preparing and disseminating information concerning the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the USAO, under the direction and supervision of the Public Affairs Officer (PAO)(a/k/a Public Information Officer (PIO)). Assist the POI with a multitude of media platforms. The Specialist will also provide a variety of office administrative support to the PAO, allowing the PAO to more effectively support, manage and direct the overall mission of the office through the operation of the Public Affairs Section of the USAO.

Requirements

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-09 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (2) of the (3) duties listed below: Assisting with gathering public reaction to information programs for the purpose of drawing conclusions and offering management recommendations in improving aspects of information materials; Writing or editing routine news releases and social media posts for dissemination to the office, public and news media; Maintaining the office's internal and external websites, as well as social media sites. OR two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree; or a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the respective grade level in which you are applying: To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must possess: Specialized Experience: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level in the Federal service performing (obtained in either the public or private sectors) (4) of the (5) duties listed below: Gathering public reaction to information programs for the purpose of drawing conclusions and offering management recommendations in improving aspects of information materials. Developing information materials, such as news releases, fact sheets, and articles for publication in appropriate printed media. Establishing and maintaining direct contact with the public, specialized groups, and community and governmental entities. Utilizing knowledge of local court rules, legal documents, processes, and procedures to present legal information and facts. Utilizing a variety of social media platforms to produce and disseminate information. OR Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or a combination of the required experience and education for this grade level.
