About the Position: Serves as a Medical Insurance Technician (Office Auotomation) performing duties in support of the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and its geographic area of responsibility. This position is located with the Lyster Army Medical Center, Fort Novosel, AL.

Duties
Identify sources of reimbursable earnings and ensuring accurate billing, collection, deposit, and reporting of these earnings.
Advise on unusual trends for non-payment by insurance companies and provides input for analytical and evaluative methods to improve the TPCP.
Analyze Accounts Receivable for assigned claims in a timely manner to determine the status of claims errors or obstacles that could delay/prevent payment.
Assist with unpaid claims; compare account balance with related data to assure agreement; review records and source documents to identify the sources of discrepancies; and determine the entries required to bring the accounts into balance.
Serve as a Medical Insurance Technician in the Resource Management Division of the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) and works under the general supervision of the Budget Officer.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series and are subject to required/missing immunizations.
- This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 5% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
- This is a Financial Management Level 1 Certified position. This certification requirement is a condition of employment for this position.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Qualified Typist is Required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualified Typist Requirement: In addition to meeting the experience or education requirements, for all positions titled as Office Automation or any clerical positions which has parenthetical title of Office Automation (OA), applicants must have typing proficiency of 40 words per minute (wpm) based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
In addition to meeting the requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes creating financial records of transactions, analyzing accounts, and assuring compliance with policies.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Education
In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Only degrees from an accredited college or university recognized by the Department of Education are acceptable to meet positive education requirements or to substitute education for experience.
Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Medical Technology or Medical Coding.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
