About the Position: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
Duties
Performs pharmacy technician duties and assist the pharmacist in the processing and dispensing of prescriptions for both regular and scheduled medication.
Receives and reviews individual prescriptions for the full range of pharmaceuticals, to include controlled drugs, to determine kind, strength, and dosage of drugs to be dispensed.
Sets up prescriptions by obtaining correct stock container and calculating quantities.
Conducts interviews with patients or their caregivers for the purpose of establishing medication history.
Provides drug information to patients and caregivers and counsels patients/caregivers on proper medication use.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- This position has mandatory seasonal Influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal Influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- This position requires the incumbent to have Tuberculosis testing.
- Must possess and maintain valid Pharmacy Technician Certification, from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
- This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Basic Requirement for Pharmacy Technician, GS-6:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing automated pharmacy systems to enter or retrieve data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone-no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
