This position is located with the BIA, Office of Trust Services, Division of Forestry & Wildland Fire Management, located at the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC), in Boise, Idaho. Duties

Ensure correct applications and specifications are met when inspecting and maintaining wildland fire engines. Ensure a high state of readiness for agency and tribal fleet vehicles. Maintain responsibility for fire repairs and maintenance to equipment. Assist with identification and mitigation of deficiencies of the wildland fire fleet operational and safety requirements to identify deficiencies of safe operations. Provide expertise in small engines, pumps and pumping systems used on wildland fire engines. Understand wildland firefighting practices and the use of water hydraulics and delivery systems common to wildland fire applications.

Examples of work experience include but are not limited to: Work with field personnel in identifying and settling problems with standard firefighting equipment. Assist field personal on water handling systems and fire equipment repair. Knowledge of firefighting techniques and practices gained through experience on a Fireline. Extensive knowledge and experience of shop and wildland fire equipment safety practices. Work long hours with power and hand tools during high temperatures. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement.
