The incumbent is responsible for maintaining a complex Agent Cashier Section assigned to Fiscal Service. Performs a very critical role within the VA system, functions independently with a broad knowledge base and minimal supervision. Primary duties involve teller activities composed of the areas of collection and disbursement of funds. In this capacity the incumbent is designated as an authorized Agent of the Treasury Department , and is personally held responsible for the Treasury's advance
Duties
Incumbent is responsible for preparing and processing deposits daily. Deposits are submitted electronically via OTC Net. Incumbent identifies discrepancies with amounts or bank routing symbols and initiates action to effect proper reconciliation by rejecting non-negotiable monetary instruments, verifying amounts, requesting replacement checks, or requesting a peer review. S(he) accepts payments on various types of receivables such as Pharmacy co-pay, torts, employee, vendor, worker's compensation, and ineligible hospitalization. In processing receivables for our facility, the incumbent verifies bill number, name, and date of service. S(he) must ensure the appropriation designated on the receipt is accurate. S(he) uses all resources available to research problems such as refund checks from vendors with no patient number, checks received with no bill number or patient name/SSN. Administrative and interest fees imposed by regulations are added to outstanding account receivables so the incumbent must resolve all problems with minimum delay.
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of Specialized experience includes performing cash/check/electronic funds processing functions which involve the receipt, disbursement, deposits, transfers, and other clerical/administration task. To be creditable, the specialized experience must have been at the GS-04 grade level or higher, or an equivalent level of responsibility.

Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have four years past high school .
OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond four years of high school..

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work is principally sedentary and may require some physical effort, such as standing, walking, bending, or sitting and lifting of cash boxes (not to exceed 20 lbs.)
