About the Position: In this position, you will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic at the The Dalles Project, a hydroelectric facility on the Columbia River. You will be responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of grounds, facilities, and equipment associated with recreation sites, wildlife habitat lands, and water control structures

Duties

Constructs wooden forms of concrete. Replaces window glass and screening. Perform any finish carpentry required on the project. Perform a wide range of welds from simple to precision welding utilizing electric and gas welding equipment to fabricate and/or repair equipment for the section. Installs and/or makes plumbing maintenance repairs to toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, hydrants, valves, faucets, waterlines, water heaters, irrigation controllers, sprinkler heads, sewer lines, fixtures, pumps, etc. Perform grounds maintenance to include structural building and road repair. Operate flat bed trucks, forklifts, or other vehicles to move supplies, equipment, or material. Make electrical repairs by removing, replacing, splicing (including waterproof splicing), soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, and equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds.
  • A pre-employment physical is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and/or maintain a valid state driver's license.

You must have the ability to perform the majority of the following maintenance mechanic tasks under normal supervision: painting, carpentry, repairing irrigation systems, plumbing repairs, and welding, have the ability with full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. You must have the ability to operate and maintain forklifts, backhoes, and tractor-trailers, and have the ability to perform daily operation checks of this equipment. May perform work on ladders and scaffolds that requires overhead reaching. The work requires the lifting of materials, tools, and equipment that weigh up to 75 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Majority of work is performed outside with exposure to a variety of weather and temperature extremes. Some tasks may be performed inside. There is exposure to potential insect and snakebite. Is subject to cuts and bruises common to users of hand and power tools. May be subject to strain from lifting or carrying heavy tools or equipment. Is exposed to traffic hazards while driving on both improved and unimproved road surfaces.
